Back to the Basics!

I am getting tired of watching youth soccer games where too many kids can do step over moves, scissor moves, and flicks…….but then can not pass or strike the ball correctly.
I think the artistic side of the game is great but you have to focus on the basic fundamentals before a step over is even worth attempting.
This goes for you coaches as well…..make sure your kids can pass a ball with the inside of their foot and strike a ball with their laces prior to worrying about whether or not they can rainbow a ball over their head!
Once the basic fundamentals and on ball “touch” are attained, slowly integrate some training of the flashier moves.
Even then, make sure the time spent practicing fundamental soccer skills far outweighs the flashy moves.
